Pok Pok. Yum Yum.

Pok Pok Thai on SE 32nd and Division

Pok Pok. Yum Yum.

Atmosphere - very Readymade-esque place. Very cool and hip. They have an outside area and are expanding into the house. They've been open.

Food - Half-chicken at 5 bucks was juicy and crusty, yum. The combo with the sticky rice and papaya salad (pok pok) was $8.50 and was great and fresh.

Bottom Line - this is a great carryout place, probably best and most minimal thai in portland. No frills. Not to mention cheap and friendly staff.
I am on a roll w/ Cafe Sushi K and Pok Pok. Now all I need is Indian. Any ideas?

Sushi Cafe K Hits the Spot

Sushi Cafe K 2015 NE Broadway St Portland, OR 97232 (503) 281-0815

This sushi place is really not a cafe, but besides that...

We found this place in the Eat Shop Portland book. We have been looking and longing and dreaming for a good sushi place since moving here (still looking for Indian food). Everyone says to go to the hole-in-the-wall place in Sellwood called Saburo so we tried that, and were surprised at how large the sizes. It was not a bad place but was not a traditional Japanese sushi experience. More like the Big Mac of Sushi - I can hear the owners laughing to their bank account at how all Americans care about is size and getting stuffed at a good price.

I did find Sushi Cafe K to be the best Portland sushi experience.

Price It was 20 bucks a person, but it was well worth it.

Food - Excellent fish. The best I have had so far here as far as sushi-grade fish.

Service - non-American, authentic. Clearly a family run place. He asked me where I went to and I wouldn't tell him as I didn't want him to think that the 'other way' is better; he mentioned several times that his place was not crowded but he made things this way because he had to eat them, referencing the rice as better than others. I told him it was the fish that made the difference for me.

Atmosphere - I'm not a fan of Broadway Street as it feels like a strip mall. There's not much going on in terms of atmosphere, but it didn't matter.

Recommendations - I recommend the salmon and tuna nigiri. You could cut it with a chop stock. Great cuts. Also recommend caterpillar rolls.

Bottom Line - When it comes to Sushi, this is the best in Portland that I have been to (better than Suburo, better than Yuki). We will continue our quest for the best sushi in portland. Stay

The Farm Cafe Improves

The Farm Cafe continues to be a favorite of mine and my wife. Service seems to have improved, in part we hope because of the slew of blogs negatively reviewing that aspect of the experience.

Last night I had Tempeh Lasagna with a smoky flavor and my wife had a wonderful also smoked sauce on her raviolli.

Both were a hit, and to boot the staff was friendly.

The Good: The food was excellent as was the ambiance.
The Bad: 30 minute wait and the bar area where we had to order drinks first was very crowded so had to go out back with our drinks. Also the other customers were a bit noisy this time.
Obviously not Farm's fault. Parking was slightly sketchy in terms of, Is our car going to get busted into?
